I became interested on how Chinese people were received to the United States from 1850 to 1950 and how that reception changed throughtout time.

The following is a small yet informative example of what you will be able to learn from this site and i hope you enjoy it.

Since the early 1800′s, Chinese people became interested in migrating to the US due to a westward expansion and with the hope that they would be able to support their families overseas. When Chinese went to the US, Americans were not so nice to them and the government started to have laws that would make them feel inferior. Up until the mid 1900′s, the chinese were more welcomed in American land finally granting livelihood and certain equal rights.

The primary and secondary sources that I have obtained will show the you the different ways in which they connect. The most reliable and known primary source that I have is the document of the Chinese Exclusion Act during 1882, this document shows how the chinese after about fifty years of being in America were discriminated. Besides government documents, I also have pamphlets of boycotts against chinese people. For my secondary sources, and visualizations, I have a map of the main areas of where Chinese worked on gold mines during the Gold rush. You will also see a visualization of the census from the 1830′s to 1950′s. This will show the amount of Chinese people that moved in and out of the US according to government documents.
